Liverpool lost to Watford in a game where relegation battling side Watford defeated the runaway league leaders by a scoreline 3-0 where  Ismalia Sarr’s brace gave a shock to the Merseysiders. This loss made the Reds hopes of going unbeaten and matching Arsenal’s Invincibles shatter and Jurgen Klopp claimed that he is not worried about breaking records after all.

The Merseysiders were beaten for the first time in the season and also it was their first loss after 44-game streak. Hornets are the only side apart from Manchester United to take off the points from Liverpool in 2019-20.

Also, Jurgen Klopp’s side started the game with an intent to break the record of Pep Guardiola who had won 18-games on succession in the previous season. However, Klopp couldn’t achieve the feat and equalled Manchester City’s record.

But in the end, it was the destiny that Liverpool had to falter before getting as possible champions. However, the Merseysiders’ manager said that he is focussing on the players’ performances rather than achieving any milestones.

Talking to Sky Sports, Jurgen Klopp said:

“The boys already have so many records that we are not that greedy that we think we have to beat every one,”

You cannot get every record that you want. You have to perform. The result is a result of the performance.

Tonight, we did not perform well enough. That’s my concern. That’s what I think about. Not that we cannot now be the best Premier League team ever.

Now we can win football games again and set a new mark.

“It is always clear at one point we would lose a game – it’s not that we were waiting for it. Actually, the opposite.”

Former Borussia Dortmund’s manager also felt that Liverpool wasn’t up to the mark in their defeat to the Nigel Pearson led side. For Hornets, Ismalia Sarr scored a brace whereas Troy Deeney slotted past Alisson Becker to seal the game for Watford.

The German international  said:

“Why has it come to an end? We were not good enough – easy as that,”

I knew that it was always very difficult but with the extra things around it’s extra motivation for who can beat us the first time.

We don’t have that. We just have to win a game, and everything is fine. Win more games and everything is fine. Win a lot of games – an unexpected number of games – and everything is fine.

“We are human beings and the boys did outstandingly well, so tonight does not have anything to do with games we won before.”

Jurgen Klopp also said that Liverpool were short of their best efforts which made them lose the game. He also added that Watford played the way they wanted and executed the perfect game plan. However, Watford lost their winger, Deulofeu due to injury and seems to be out for months together.. The player was taken off during the first half of itself.

He added:

Watford did exactly what they wanted to do, we did exactly what we didn’t want to do.

First half was a lot of running, second balls and open situations. We didn’t cross and pass in the right moment.

We changed it but could not get the benefit of it because we conceded a goal from a throw-in. It’s not decisive at 1-0 if you react well.

“At 2-0 it’s also not decisive but the third one we had a hand in. It was a game that Watford won and congratulations, well done. We have to accept it.”

With this victory, Watford are out of their relegation zone. Is this the impetus that was required for Hornets to save their season? Comment the opinion below.
