Former Indian team batting coach Vikram Rathour has been appointed by Rajasthan Royals (RR) as their batting coach for the upcoming IPL 2025. Rathour’s appointment comes just days after Rahul Dravid was appointed as the head coach of RR. During the tenure of Dravid and Rathour, the Indian team reached the first position in the rankings in all three formats and also won the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy.
Welcoming Rathour to RR, Dravid said, “I have worked with Vikram for many years. I can say with full confidence that his technical ability, calm nature, and good understanding of the Indian conditions make him perfect for this role. We have contributed to India’s success together and I am excited to have him again to develop young talent that will help us in our pursuit of making RR a world-class team.”

Rathour played six Tests and seven ODIs for India. He became the batting coach of the Indian team in 2019. Before joining the Indian team, he had also played the role of national selector. In domestic cricket, he had also served as a coach to the teams of Punjab and Himachal.

On joining RR for IPL 2025, Rathour said, “It is a matter of pride for me to be a part of the Royals family. I am very excited to work with Rahul again and to connect with the young players. I am looking forward to the team’s cause and the Royals’ commitment to the world. I am looking forward to contributing to the development of top-level talents.”
Rajasthan Royals have only one trophy to their name in the IPL so far, which they won in the first edition under the captaincy of Shane Warne. Dravid himself has been the captain of RR in the past. After Sanju Samson became the captain of RR in 2022, the team reached the finals but had to face defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans (GT). Whereas in the 2024 edition, RR was out of the playoffs.
