Duncan Andrew Fletcher was born on 27th September 1948. He is an ex-cricketer of Zimbabwe and former coach of Indian Cricket team. He was also a coach for England Cricket team during 1999-2007. He played as a left-handed batsman and a right arm fast medium bowler.

Early Life

Duncan Fletcher was born in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia; which in modern day Harare Zimbabwe. He was one of five brothers in a Rhodesian farming family. His sister, Ann Grant was the captain of Women’s field hockey team of Zimbabwe and won the gold medal in 1980 Summer Olympics held in Moscow. His one brother, Allan Fletcher was also a cricketer and played first-class games for Rhodesia in the late 1970s.

Domestic Career

Duncan Fletcher played as a member of team West Province during 1984-1985. He also played for Rhodesia during 1969-1980. He played 111 First-class matches with a run score of 4095 and a batting average of 23.67

International Career

Duncan Fletcher made his One-Day International debut on 9th June 1983 against Australia. He played his last One-Day International on 20th June 1987 against West Indies. He played a total of 6 One-Day International matches with 191 runs scored and a batting average of 47.75, he was the one to bring victory to Zimbabwe in ICC Trophy in 1982. He never played Test crick in his playing career.

A career as a Coach

Fletcher was appointed as a coach of Indian Cricket team on 27th April 2011, with a contract of two years. Under his coaching, Indian National team achieved 8 series victory continuously in 2013. The contact between the Indian National team was Fletcher ended after the World Cup in March 2015. He was succeeded by Anil Kumble.

Fletcher also coached the England Cricket team. Under him, the English team achieved famous victories against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies and South Africa between 2000-2004.
